Since the late 2000s, EU member states have implemented continent-wide carbon pricing and binding renewable-energy goals that now span nearly every sector. With funding and regulatory hurdles at home, many U.S. startups are finding Europe a more viable place to build.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is about money. This is about lifelines. It\u2019s about where you can build. [European] regulations are essentially 10 years ahead of where we wanted the Americas and the Asias to be.\u201d Po told <em>Heatmap<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, SOSV launched a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sosv.com\/introducing-sosvs-ireland-biomanufacturing-fund\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><u>new\u00a0Ireland-based fund<\/u><\/a>\u00a0to support advanced biomanufacturing and decarbonization startups open to co-locating in the country as they scale into the European market. Thus far, the fund has invested in companies working to make\u00a0emissions-free fertilizers (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.organicag.com\/\">California Organic Fertilizers<\/a>),\u00a0sustainable aviation fuel (<a href=\"https:\/\/viabiofuels.com\/\">ViaFuels<\/a>),\u00a0biofuel for heavy industry (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mirabio.co\/\">Mira Biotech<\/a>), among others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SOSV\u2019s choice of Ireland mirrors the path taken by tech giants like Google and Microsoft \u2014 an English-speaking base with low corporate taxes and strong connectivity to the continent.
