We\u2019re thrilled to announce that Mitico<\/a>, a graduate from our HAX<\/a> hard tech program, has secured a $4.3 million seed round, led by Exergon<\/a> with participation from AP Ventures<\/a>, Deepbright Ventures<\/a>, Freeflow Ventures<\/a>, Halliburton Labs<\/a>, the Alliance for SoCal Innovation<\/a>, SOSV<\/a>, and W. L. Gore & Associates<\/a>\u2019 ventures team. This funding will accelerate their innovative approach to carbon capture, utilizing a simple salt that\u2019s been enhanced for industrial applications. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mitico\u2019s technology stands out by significantly reducing the cost of CO\u2082 capture. By leveraging a modified salt<\/strong>, they offer an efficient and scalable solution<\/strong> to address global carbon emissions.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\u201cThe chemistry that we\u2019re using \u2014 the carbonation and decarbonation reaction \u2014 that\u2019s what I call prehistorical chemistry. It was there before us, and it will be there after us,\u201d Cl\u00e9ment Cid, co-founder and CEO of\u00a0Mitico<\/a>, told TechCrunch.<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Most have avoided using potassium carbonate for two reasons: first, it turns into mush after one use, making it hard to reuse, and second, dissolving the salt in water and bubbling the gas through it isn\u2019t any cheaper than the alternatives. Mitico went the first route, adding a binder to prevent the pebbles from turning to mush<\/a>. The pebbles can capture more than 95% of the carbon dioxide in an exhaust stream, Cid said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
